Wordless Wednesday

100_3454.jpg

Sorry about the glare of the lamps in the background!  Bad photography on my part!

These are my mom's parents.  Ralph and Anne Hansen.  Don't you just love their outfits and hair dos? Ralph was from Norway and Anne was from Russia.  Correct me if I'm wrong, mom, but I think they were the first of their families born in America.  There's a lot of cool family history- mom- you should start a blog and just blog about all the stories you've dug up with cousin Lorraine!  Grandma Anne died before I was born and I never really got to know Ralph- as my only memories of him, he was senile.  I'm so happy my kids have relationships with both sets of their grandparents!  They are soooo lucky.

I just noticed while posting this that Bailey has the same shaped face as her great grandmother!!

  5. A very nice photo, indeed. Maybe your mom can start filling in the blanks. I hope so.

  6. Interesting, Beck. So, they were both born here. Imagine being the son/daughter of an immigrant and marrying someone from another country! I wonder how their English was?

  7. Well, what a great picture. Bailey does have Mom's shaped face and the Kuntzevich coloring. My Dad lived in Norway until he was 12. Grandpa Nicholi would come to America and build the house so when they left Bergen they were ready to move in the house I showed you on Ionia Avenue. Mom's two brothers were born in Belaruse Russia and she was born in Brooklyn along with another brother. Grandpa John Kuntzevich was born in Minsk Russia. Grandma Kuntzevich spoke broken English and never learned to read or write (but she could knit!). Amanda, yes it was terrible when my Mom and Dad got married. My Mom was the only girl and they didn't even want to attend the wedding because he was...........Norweign! It was that way with everyone I guess. Darryl's Dad was full Irish Catholic and when he married Grandma Betty the family had nothing to do with her because she wasn't Irish nor Catholic. And Becky, yes, I wish you were able to meet Grandma Anne and Grandpa Ralph. My Dad was the funny one, always laughing and playing games with us. I remember when Mom was a night shift nurse, he would make us dinner and tell us stories of when we lived in Norway. Even if we hear it 10 times, the 10th was the funniest. Mom was the gentle and quiet one, she would have loved you to pieces. But I guess God had a different plan and needed her in heaven. LUV U Mom
