Garden brainstorming

With the warmer  temperatures we saw this week and the rain that we've had for the last few days, I have my vegetable garden on the brain.  So, I'm just going to use this post as my brainstorm.

Last year, we grew tomatoes- bad year for them, okra- pretty good crop, cukes & eggplant- excellent crop, peppers- horrible year and carrots- none grew.

This year, I'm only planting 2 tomatoes- one cherry and one standard sized.  I'm definitely planting Japanese eggplant & cukes again, as we loved that!  What else should I plant?  Does anyone know what else grows really well in Georgia- zone 7b?

Can it get more exciting than this?

This is the message I got today from our local ABC station.  Needless to say, I am very excited!  I'll have to have a LOST party at my house or something!

American Idol- girls night

Well, I wasn't impressed with the girls- what a boring night, compared to last night.  I know a lot of them were sick, but most of them were sharp at times.  Yuck.

Here are my favorites from tonight:

Yeah...that's it.  I was really disappointed.  I'm hoping they can all get well and next week will be better.  As of now, I'm rooting for the boys.

Tony Campolo on Colbert

Ok, so I'm still having problems embedding video- I can't figure out what is wrong.  So, I put my video in the top right sidebar.  Click on VodPod

Earlier in the month, Tony Campolo was on The Colbert Report (my favorite show!)  He was just so incredible- it's a must see.  I cannot wait to read his book, Red Letter Christians.  It is so refreshing to see someone who is an evangelical Christian, who is a liberal democrat- who believes in all human rights- including gay marriage.  Plus, he played right along with Colbert's humor and I like that.  :)

I really want you to watch the video, but if you don't, here are some great clips from the transcript:
:: the people who believe this the red-letters of the bible, the words of jesus. we are totally committed to it which means we're in to compassion for the poor, first and foremost. compassion to the poor

Upon confronted with gay marriage, Tony states that marriage is in trouble in America because of heterosexual divorces.

:: all they want is the same privileges, good or bad, that the rest of us enjoy. don't get me wrong. i am not affirming a particular lifestyle. i am, in fact, standing up for all the rights andprivileges that all americans should enjoy.

:: we want justice for our gay brothers and lesbian sisters because we think that god loves them intensely. he wants good for them.

Wow- I just love that- especially coming from someone as respected as Tony Campolo.  It's about human rights, people! Who are we to judge?  We, as Christians, do so much of that already.

American Idol- boys night

So, who were your favorites?
Here are mine in no particular order! What fabulous, young talent!  Amazing!

Okay, okay...I know I just listed 5 of the guys, but out of 12, at least I narrowed it down that much!

Moved by Compassion

On Saturday, I opened my bloglines to read updated blogs, as usual.  Little did I know that I'd be so moved by Amanda's post. I started reading the blogs of the Uganda blog team at Compassion International, including two bloggers that I "know" BooMama and Shannon at Rocks in my Dryer.  15 Christian bloggers went to Uganda from Feb. 10-18 to experience first hand what Compassion International does.  After reading just a small sampling, I immediately went to inform Dave that we were "adopting" a child!  He was not receptive, until I gave him more information- then he was as excited as I was.  Needless to say, the kids are thrilled, and we said our first prayers for our little boy last night. His name is Andrew Ng'Ang'a and he is just adorable.  He's 8 years old and is from Kenya.  The kids loved reading about the type of house he lives in, what type of food he eats, etc.  We can't wait to get our packet in a few weeks so we can start writing to him.  We plan on sponsering him until he's 18- he will be our extended family.  What can I do with $32 a month?  Order delivery food?  Buy a new pair of shoes? Pay someone to clean 1/3 of my house?  Or help sponser a child, providing him education, food, financial help, and hope?  I'll go with the latter.

Blurt

I cut about 4 inches off of my hair this week.  :)

Happy Birthday, Jill!

My best friend at work just turned 40 and her party was on Saturday night.  I somehow lost the pics I took of her, so I took a picture of the cups that she gave out.  Happy Birthday, my friend!

Ladies Night Out

Instead of watching the Super Bowl, the Sisterchicks and I went to Ladies Night Out at The Melting Pot.  (there are a lot of caps in that last sentence!)

Not only did we have a blast, but Amanda gave us all a cool present.  Let me start out by saying that one of my chicks, Mandi, is due to have her second baby in Sept. Amanda gives us a Cadbury egg with a note attached that says, "Not to be outdone, Amanda is expecting a chickie in October!"  How exciting!  Two sisterchicks pregnant at the same time!  Now all we need is a dual wedding for Kristen and Staci!

Here's Amanda with her eggciting news!

How yummy does this look?  We had four plates of this with two chocolate fondue dips for 6 of us!  I felt like I was back on my cruise!

Bingo Night

Our school has bingo night each year- it's a great fundraiser, as all the prizes are donated.  The main prizes this year were gift cards....amazing giftcards like a party for 15 at Jump Zone, $50 at one restaurant, $25 at another, etc.  So, Bailey wins and I go up and try to talk her into a gift card, but she wants nothing to do with it- she wants a toy.  Well, sorry to break it to you, but the toys are crudy.  I finally give up and go back to play bingo to try to win my own giftcard.  Bailey finally comes back and sets a dinky 99 cent plastic cup on the table and just stares at it.  I say, "what were you thinking?" and she wails, "what was I thinking!"  I talk her into trading it in and she gets a $25 giftcard to a local Japanese steak house.  Yum!  Jake won and chose buffet for 2 at Golden Coral.  I brought both kids' best friends and they both won.  So, I say, "I'm the loser of the family" and Bailey says, "you look 16, mom!"  She knows how to make an old lady feel good.  LOL

I'm back!

So, it's been a while since I last posted, so I have a lot to add.  First post is a contest at Oh Amanda! The contest is for a book, and oh, how I love to read!  I have to post a pic of me with my blog.  Well, it didn't come out very good as you can see below.  I'm at home without dh so I have no one to take the pic, plus it's dark out so the flash is really bright on me.  Whatever- here goes nothing!
