Meet the babies

Baby number one is Bayar from Mongolia.

Baby number two is Hattie from San Francisco.

Baby number three is Mari from Japan.

Baby number four is Ponijao from Namibia.

Intrigued yet? Want to meet the babies? Go see Babies on Mother's Day weekend! Until then, check back for more exclusive information and pictures of the babies!

Disclosure: I am acting as a BzzAgent.  I am not receiving any compensation as an ambassador, however the more people who click on my links, the better my chances of winning great prizes including Johnson's Baby diaper bags, a 1-year supply of Pampers Diapers or a Maclaren Stroller! My sister-in-law is expecting twins, so I'd love to win. Of course, all opinions are my own- I can't wait for this movie!

Babies, The Movie

If you loved March of the Penguins as much as I did, you have got to check out the new documentary, Babies.  The movie follows four babies from Mongolia, Namibia, San Francisco and Tokyo from birth until first steps. Check out the trailer:

Don't you LOVE the babies from Namibia?  Haven't you seen exactly the same thing with your babies? I just want to eat them up!  The movie comes out on Mother's Day weekend- I think I'm going to take MY 10 year old baby to go see this.

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Healthy Things I Want to Try

1. I would like to eat grass-fed beef.  I watched Food Inc. last week.  'Nuff said.  I immediately called up my friend who's dad raises cattle and asked for info.  I found a few people to split the cow and by June I will be the proud owner of 1/4 cow.  If it works for us, the next time around, I'd like to buy 1/2 cow.
2. I want to start picking fresh fruits from u-pick places. We have always picked blueberries, but after going apple picking in the fall, I fell in love with the difference in quality. I did some searching and found the best website for finding u-pick farms in your area. The next crop available in Georgia is strawberries.  Fingers crossed that there will be some ready during Spring Break! I plan to buy a bunch and freeze them for smoothies. After that, I'd like to stock up on peaches!

3. I would like to frequent farmers markets.  Last year I started going to local farmers markets on Saturdays and loved it.  I didn't buy much, I just tasted and browsed.  This year, I'd like to take advantage of the local produce, other than what comes out of my own garden. Pickyourown.org also has a farmers market listing, complete with reviews. Many of them only are open on the weekends in the summer, but I'm excited to try the Dekalb Farmers Market, which is open year round.
4. I currently try to roast at least one or two chickens a month.  I then make a mineral rich stock like I was taught at Health Begins With Mom. My goal is to start doing this at least once a week, if not more often.  I roasted a chicken yesterday, used the meat today for my casserole and made enough stock to cook my rice in for tonight and I still have about  6 or 7 cups left for the week.

5. I currently buy regular old chickens.  I know, I know.  I would like to get into buying free-range chickens, but the price...oh the price.  How can I give up my $3 chickens (when on sale, I STOCK UP) for a chicken that is smaller and at least $10?  I know, I know.  I'd like to find someone local....

6.  I buy organic, free range eggs and when I get to my vets (an hour away) I always buy a flat of free range eggs, but again, I'd like to find somewhere local to get my eggs. I grew up with chickens and if we could have them in my neighborhood, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

7.  I'd like to make soaked granola via Health Begins With Mom again! Have you heard of soaking grains?  It's very interesting to read about! How cool would it be if I could stop buying cereal?

8. I NEED to go to the gym more.  I have slacked off massively.  It's hard when I'm expected to cook, clean, do homework, etc (plus blog, of course) and no one from my family wants to go to Gold's Gym with me!

9. I'd like to make my own bread. I've made bread before- I enjoy making bread, but usually it's frou-frou bread. I want to make some down home, back to nature, good for you, whole grain bread!  The soaked bread sounds interesting, but I don't like sourdough... any suggestions?

10. I want to hug my husband more.  I think that will be healthy for everyone involved!

Garden 2010

After last week's snow, today's warm temperatures were delicious!  We put off the house work until tomorrow and decided to work outside today.  We tilled the garden, turned in a layer of mushroom compost and planted two rows of peas.  With the danger of frost still upon us, that is all I can plant at this stage, but it did get me thinking about what I plan to plant this year.  We saved some okra seeds from last year, so I'll definitely plant that.  Then we have the herb garden.  I already have the rosemary plant that has been there for years.  To it I will add parsley, mint and basil. Hopefully our artichokes will produce this year!  Here is the rest of what we will plant!
